I am Harriet Emily, and I work with Sound and Energy to help people feel good.
Many things! I was raised in quite a spiritual household, so I went to healing and psychic development circles from around the age of five. I hit a rebellion towards the ‘spiritual life’ in my teens, but came back around to it when I turned 18, left school, and found a LA yoga class. The class sent me back into the spiritual world and led me to study various healing modalities such as sound, which is my leading practice today.
My most memorable experiences are actually the ones where I’ve been enjoying a quiet time in nature. Moments when I turn around to see a deer, bird or a fox right in front of me on my path. They remind me of the interconnectedness we have with nature, which I often worry we forget due to modern-day life.
The influence that sound has on the way that you feel inside your body is potent. Sometimes, when I’m having a stressful day, I’ll pick up a tuning fork and place it on a specific meridian or chakra point, or I’ll play a Himalayan singing bowl on my body. The instant moment that I feel its vibration hit me, I soften, I connect to my body, and I feel grounded again – and to me, it’s these sensations which help support and grant access to the space in which we heal.
As I mentioned above, the tuning forks and Himalayan singing bowls make me feel very grounded and connected to my body, this is because you can play them on the body so that you feel their vibrations directly on the skin. The gong to me is incredibly hypnotic – the humming sounds of deep, bellowing, symphonic waves you hear every time you strike a mallet against it is powerful enough to send me straight to sleep. Then, you have the angelic tones of the crystal singing bowls. Their sweet lullabies ring out like hymns and instantly make me feel as though I’m floating on clouds. When played together, I feel like I have been sent on an intergalactic journey, crossing time and space.
Sound and nature – not just the instruments I use, but the sound of nature too. Being outside and hearing the sound of a stream, breeze, birdsong, leaves crunching on the ground, or the ocean’s rolling waves is what helps me feel connected to the constant change of life.
I just launched the new version of my website, harrietemily.com so I am currently celebrating that! My partner and I have been working on lots of relaxing guided meditations and sound baths for download too, so I’m really excited for them to be released out into the world!
