Hema Vyas

Who are you and what do you do?

I am a speaker on heart wisdom, human consciousness, spirituality, health, energy medicine and the science of Ayurveda and for almost thirty years I have been practising as a psychologist and life leadership mentor.

My work is about connecting timeless wisdom to solve the problems of modern times, especially by understanding the significance of the heart.

What led you to where you are today?

Born in Kenya to Indian parents, I come from a long lineage of Vaidyas (Ayurvedic doctors). From a young age, I felt a calling to help others and strong empathetic feelings to people, especially those who were experiencing suffering.

When I was fourteen years old, I had an out of body experience after being hit by a car and realised that we are so much more than our bodies and minds. Fast forward to university where I followed my heart and chose to study psychology. I discovered that academia was only part of the infinite knowledge about consciousness and that self-hypnosis and meditation are the most powerful forces to bring about transformation.

My lecturers admired my courage to cultivate such an interest in the power of the heart even though the dominant paradigm of the day was very much “mind rules”. As a professional psychologist I have worked with countless individuals and groups shedding light on the magnificence of knowing our hearts.

Time and time again I see that by finding and following the unique wisdom of their hearts, each individual connects to their true prosperity which encompasses the five pillars of health, wealth, love, passion and purpose.

Ceremonies

What have been some of the most memorable ceremonies or experiences for you?

The most memorable ceremonies would definitely be the ones that I have led for groups in India. These stand out because they are part of an immersive, heart, mind, body experience and take place against the backdrop of stunning nature in a primordial-feeling setting with sea, ancient trees, incredible bird and animal sounds along with our chanting and drumming.

Having cleansed physically with lots of earthy and locally produced vegetables and juices and with a slow down of the mind as a result of daily meditations and gyana yoga, the beautiful group journeys that we have gone on together with an intention to connect to something deeper have taken everyone to another level of consciousness.

These kinds of journeys happen when we have primed body and mind to connect with the deeper heart space.

Why do you think meditation is such a healing modality?

Repetitive thoughts keep us stuck in the past and when we are able to let go of those thoughts in a space of pure silence through the art of meditation, we are able to tap into infinity.

The heart space is a portal to infinity that contains all possibilities and all probabilities. So besides the more well-known benefits such as calm, a sense of alignment and increased self-awareness – meditation is so healing because we are no longer limited by our thoughts about who we are. We step into the heart space, a place of pure creativity where infinite possibilities can arise.

Infinite Possibilities

What would you say are the three key healing tools that an every day person can incorporate into their daily life to help them feel the best they can be?

What we eat is key, food is medicine. It is a huge part of Ayurveda and one of the things would be to cultivate more mindfulness about what we eat, when we eat, how we eat, embracing all the different colours, tastes and textures. The sensations food creates in our mouths has a huge impact on our physical, cellular bodies.

Meditation, of course, this goes without saying. Meditation allows us to switch off the external and tune into the internal but most importantly because it allows us to connect with the heart, and our hearts contain the truth of who we are and of our destinies.

And the third one is yoga that is really about conscious movement with breath, body, mind and heart. When you are doing a yoga practice discipline you are moving your body in a specific way to release old energies and to create space for You.

How do you stay grounded?

I have a daily practice that keeps me grounded. As an air sign I can be quite ‘out there’ with my dreams, fantasies wishes and imagination. The grounding comes from being able to turn those dreams, wishes and fantasies into reality.

Whether at home or travelling, I wake up very early in the morning before the world around me starts to come to life. In this space I am able to meditate deeply and follow this with my gyana yoga which allows me to tap into ancient knowledge and wisdom. This sets me up for the day to really bring that energy to the space, whether with clients, working in a corporate setting or with groups online or in-person, or simply hanging out with friends or family.

What are you working on at the moment?

The biggest project at the moment is my omnipreneurship program, that aims to move people from entrepreneur to omnipreneur.

There are so many positives to entrepreneurship (or intrapreneurship if you are working within an organisation). Omnipreneurship builds on the positives by also recognising the interconnectedness of all life: it places importance on people, purpose and planet and allowing profit to take care of itself.

“Omnipreneurship: A set of values that prioritise health and humanity alongside business objectives, with the potential to be expressed in an organisation or as an independent. Where meaning and success are seen as integral to one another.”

With an omnipreneurial mindset, working with our heart, mind and body wisdom engaged, we recognise that everything we do impacts everyone and everything around us. We work with awareness of the earth’s energetic field in order to create the most prosperous life, not only for ourselves but for others.

Prosperity is really big for me. It is our birthright. I have worked with individuals as a therapist and as a mentor for many, many years. And now, I work in the corporate field so that more people can recognise the importance of a human-first approach, the significance of the heart in the workplace and to bring the idea of omnipreneurship to light as a working, living concept.
